Simon Philips reveals Chelsea are interested in recruiting Aron Ramsdale
Transfer expert Simon Philips reports, (h/t Football.London) that Chelsea are interested in signing Aaron Ramsdale, who has lost his first team spot at Arsenal to David Raya.
However, Raya is on loan, and it’s unsure if the Gunners will sign the Spanish goalkeeper on a long-term deal. If the 25-year-old continues to remain a backup goalkeeper, then Ramsdale could consider a move away from North London.
Chelsea, although have Robert Sanchez and Dorde Petrovic at their disposal, and Kepa Arrizabalaga has been loaned to Real Madrid. Adding a fourth goalkeeper to the roster could cause chaos.
Ramsdale is Premier League-proven, and if he continues to receive less game time at North London, then we can expect him to make a decision about his future.
He is young, possesses great athleticism, and will be an excellent upgrade between the sticks, but we have three goalkeepers. So before overcrowding our goalkeeping spot, we must make some wise decisions. We should first sort out Kepa’s future, given that he is happy there and Madrid are keen on keeping him beyond his loan spell.
Sanchez seems to be error-prone after we saw what unfolded against Arsenal, and if he doesn’t rectify it, then we will have to find his competition. The England international seems to be a perfect choice.
He’ll give the former Brighton & Hove Albion man good competition for the number-one spot. The decision to keep Raya will mostly depend on Arsenal.
We can make it a possibility for him to come here and establish himself as the number one custodian. Given that Sanchez and Ramsdale are the same age, the competition for a starting position will be tough.
