“These little sparks” – Pochettino hopes Fulham goal is a turning point for talented Chelsea striker

Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino talks about young striker Armando Broja

Mauricio Pochettino is expecting Armando Broja to build on his first goal of the season in Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Fulham last weekend and hopefully get into a scoring streak.

Broja, who started against the Cottagers, displayed an impressive performance and will hope to start against Vincent Company side as Chelsea look to extend their winning run.

Pochettino will also hope that his striking options pick up their form and address the goalscoring woes, given that they will face tougher sides after the Burnley match.

However, a similar thing happened with Pochettino when he was boss of Tottenham Hotspur, where Harry Kane scored a deflected freekick, which was an upturn in his career as he subsequently went on to become Spurs’ greatest goalscorer.

A similar question was posed by the press to the Argentine manager about whether Chelsea’s fortunate second goal against Fulham was something blessed with good luck for Broja, (h/t Daily Mail) Pochettino said:

”The best players, the best coaches—you always need, at some points, these things [little sparks] that change the present and build a better future. I hope that it was a signal. A thing that can be the start of something good and to build success in Chelsea—for him and for us.’’

Well, if it was a goal that could begin his legacy, then hopefully it will give him the desperately needed self-assurance for the upcoming matches. After all, he had been sidelined for a while, and in his second game, he managed to score a goal. It wasn’t a particularly noteworthy goal, but these little things in games can make you feel good going forward.

Armando Broja is still very young, so if he wants to be as good as Kane, he will have to put in a lot of effort and maintain consistency year after year, which the Blues haven’t witnessed in their previous strikers recently. Even Kane took several years to establish himself as a prominent striker, and Broja, who is only 22 years old, has the potential to rank among the top attackers.
