Report: Chelsea hoping for financial boost by selling out-of-favour star next summer

Chelsea believe they can earn a credible transfer fee for Romelu Lukaku next summer

According to the Mirror, Chelsea are hoping to bring in a decent amount of funds through the sale of Romelu Lukaku next summer transfer window. The Blues are on the lookout for a new striker and could move for Victor Osimhen in January.

The Belgian forward never quite got going at Stamford Bridge and joined AS Roma on a season-long loan spell. The Italian air is doing him good as Lukaku has scored three goals in four starts under Jose Mourinho. A strong season at the Stadio Olimpico will only boost his confidence and transfer value.

While Lukaku’s loan spell doesn’t include an obligation to buy, the West Londoners are optimistic that his current form could convince the Giallorossi to make a permanent move for him. An outright sale is the best solution for all parties.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side have strived to find a permanent club for Lukaku all summer. The Belgian never quite got going in Blue since signing from Inter Milan in 2021–22 for £97.5 million. In many ways, the transfer can only be seen as a flop. Roma will pay the Blues £8 million for the loan and performance-related criteria while also paying his full wages.

The former Everton forward’s release clause is currently at £38 million, and while he is anticipated to return in 2024, the Blues prefer to part ways with him. Meanwhile, Chelsea’s problem in front of goal persists, and they will explore options in the winter window, with Ivan Toney and Osimhen among them.

We don’t want a player who doesn’t add value to the team, and Romelu Lukaku’s future most definitely does not lie at Stamford Bridge. Although we still have a ways to go, let’s see how things turn out. His departure is close at hand, and if he maintains consistency throughout the season so that Roma makes a permanent move for him, we will finally get rid of Lukaku.

One way or another, the Belgian will be expected to depart Stamford Bridge next summer. We only hope it is also to our financial benefit.

The club is still anticipated to look into other options for the centre-forward position in January. While Osimhen is unlikely to be sold by Napoli during the winter transfer window, and even if they do, they will demand a hefty price for him. Toney is still another option, but the Blues will make the final decision over who they want. However, Osimhen will be the superior option.
