Chelsea and Manchester City in the race to sign young South American defender

Chelsea and other European clubs are set to battle for the signing of Boca Juniors centre-back Valentin Barco

According to the Spanish outlet Fichajes, 19-year-old left-back, Valentín Barco, has drawn the attention of top European clubs, including Chelsea. His exceptional performances for Boca Juniors have put him in the spotlight, with clubs lining up for his signature.

Barco has emerged as one of the hottest prospects in South America and is now poised to make the move to a European club. There’s an intense battle brewing among Manchester City, Brighton, Real Madrid, and AC Milan to secure the talented left-back.

The Blues, in particular, could benefit from a left-back, especially since their regular fullback, Ben Chilwell, is sidelined until December. Chelsea’s strategy of investing in young talent aligns perfectly with their pursuit of Barco.

Set to become a free agent next season (Transfermarkt), Barco boasts a manageable release clause of $10 million, a figure well within reach for all the interested parties.

This season, Barco has shone as a standout player, showcasing remarkable maturity on the field. He has notched up one goal and provided three assists in 23 games across all competitions for Boca Juniors.

If he continues on this upward trajectory, we can expect him to make a seamless transition to a promising European club. His experience in the physically demanding South American football scene could serve him well in adapting to the European style of play.

Valentin Barco, a versatile 19-year-old fullback with the ability to play on the left wing, is indeed an intriguing prospect. His adaptability and physical prowess make him an ideal fit for Chelsea. Currently, Levi Colwill holds the left-back position, while Marc Cucurella is operating as the right-back due to injuries to Reece James and Chilwell, and Malo Gusto’s suspension.

Considering Barco’s attacking style of play, which aligns with manager Pochettino’s approach, and his affordable release clause with a contract set to expire next season, Chelsea must closely monitor his situation with the Argentine club. The competition for his signature is fierce, making the outcome uncertain. We can only hope for the best.
