A View From The Bridge

Blow for Chelsea as Serie A giants aim to double 24-year-old superstar’s salary with new contract

Blow for Chelsea as Napoli willing to double wages to ensure the stay of Victor Osimhen

Victor Osimhen has been linked with Chelsea for way too long now and he does feel like the final piece in our jigsaw.

His performances for the Italian defending champions Napoli has been nothing short of spectacular. He was arguably their most important player on their way to the Serie A last season.

Osimhen has not had the best of times with Naples in recent months though. He has been embroiled in a controversy with the club over a TikTok video that appeared to be mocking him. Things did not look good for the relationship at that time.

To make matters worse, it looks like the Nigerian had fallen out with manager Rudi Garcia who hooked him off at half-time which infuriated Victor Osimhen. However, he is too good a player for Napoli to not be involved though.

Many clubs were linked with Osimhen in the summer including Chelsea and the interest only seems to be growing louder every single day. Clubs will closely be watching how the relationship between the Nigerian and Napoli plays out.

According to Italian outlet Calciomercato (h/t Football. London), Napoli are in contract renewal talks with the striker which would see him extend his deal at the club. The player apparently wants to double his current wages and the club seem open to it.

The stumbling block in negotiations though is how much of a release clause can be included in the contract. Napoli want it to be 200mil but Osimhen understandably wants it lowered to give him control over his future.

It is also being claimed that Liverpool have approached the player directly and the Italian club multiple times. If the striker becomes available on the market, make no doubt that they are likely to be our strongest competition.

More Chelsea news

Chelsea should still try and ensure that they can sign Osimhen. He could be the final piece to taking this club to the next level. Mauricio Pochettino must make him his priority but let’s wait and see how this pans out.
