According to Sport, Chelsea will need to step up their pursuit of Gabriel Moscardo, as the Barcelona sporting director has contacted the Brazilian club Corinthians over a potential move in the next summer window.
The Blues have seen their last two bids rejected in the region of €21 million by the Brazilian club and will need to fork out €30 million for the sought-after midfielder. The Spanish team is on the hunt for a replacement for Sergio Busquets and believes the 18-year-old is the best possibility as he possesses similar traits to the now Inter Miami player.
But Barcelona have currently recruited Oriol Romeu to temporarily replace Busquets and wants to find a permanent successor for the 2010 FIFA World Cup winner.
The Blues now have required defensive midfielders in Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia, and Lesley Ugochukwu; therefore, it doesn’t seem prudent for us to sign another one. Our midfield is currently stacked with many talented players, and we have others as well who are on loan. Our main issue remains finding a prolific striker.
Instead of going for another midfielder, we should save our spending and buy a clinical Number 9 in January, which will help us address our goalscoring problems.
The financial difficulties Barcelona are now facing may preclude them from signing the midfielder. However, the 18-year-old is highly esteemed, so the Blues may contemplate making a bid if the Catalan giants are unable to sign him. It seems improbable that he would want to join the Spanish club given that they are now under investigation for a case involving Negreira and might face catastrophe if found guilty.
If Barcelona’s situation doesn’t improve, we might consider making an approach. If not, it won’t be something to worry about since we have enough midfield choices for the foreseeable future.
