AS Roma open to offering star forward in potential swap deal for Chelsea loanee Romelu Lukaku

AS Roma looking to make swap deal with Chelsea involving Tammy Abraham and Romelu Lukaku

AS Roma are insisting on offering Tammy Abraham in a swap deal for Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku. Lukaku never had a future at Chelsea, and the club strived to get rid of him but failing to find a permanent club and they had to loan him to Roma.

According to Calciomercato, (h/t Mirror) the Serie A club is hoping to offer Abraham in a swap deal to Chelsea instead of paying a £37 million fee upfront for Lukaku. The Blues had an agreement with Lukaku that they would sell him if they received £37 million for him.

It will be a loss for Chelsea eventually, considering they signed the striker for £97.5 million from Inter Milan in 2021–22. Lukaku is enjoying a productive spell for the Jose Mourinho side, netting eight goals in ten appearances.

It remains to be seen if they would want a swap deal instead of being paid for the former Everton striker’s exit. Abraham, who joined the Serie A side in 2021–22, enjoyed a prolific season, scoring 27 goals in his debut season.

But his form fell off, and the striker only recorded nine goals in 54 matches. The former Blues player is currently recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury he picked up before the end of last season and is set to be out for the remainder of the calendar year.

We sold him because he didn’t get enough game time at Chelsea, so bringing him back won’t make sense. He has also been inconsistent with his performance, and even if we bring him here and he hits his strides instantly he could suffer a dip in form as he did in his second season at Roma. It will undoubtedly take him some time to regain his shape, as he is also recovering from a serious injury.

A swap deal isn’t a sensible choice, and we are better off getting money from his exit instead of bringing in another decent striker. It would be wiser for us to search for a centre-forward who is reliable, productive, and not prone to injuries.
