Albania team boss Sylvinho offers injury update on Chelsea forward Armando Broja
Albania manager Sylvinho has provided a concerning update on Chelsea striker Armando Broja, admitting it was clear he wasn’t ready to feature during the international break.
Broja was released back to Chelsea early from international duty after there were doubts raised over his fitness. The 22-year-old only recently returned from a long-term knee injury that kept him out for much of 2022.
But speaking about Broja’s status, Albania boss Sylvinho revealed the striker still had worries over his condition in an interview covered by Metro. Given the youngster’s injury struggles of late, we hope the issue isn’t serious.
“What happened to Broja is very simple, it arose from a serious injury, he had been out for nine months.”
The manager noted Armando Broja had played limited minutes since returning from Chelsea in October. When he reported for international duty, medical checks flagged up concerns despite Broja’s training initially.
“When he came here, he trained, but he still had a bit of concern: we sat down and spoke to the doctor, and we were in constant contact with Chelsea to find out about his injury.
It was clear that he wasn’t going to play and together with the club and the player we agreed that he would return to Chelsea and begin his recovery. That’s the whole story.”
After discussions between all parties, it became apparent that Broja was not ready for international action. It is a fair assessment and remains imperative that Broja is not rushed into action before he is ready. It might prove frustrating and needs patience but is well worth it in the long run.
The exact nature of Broja’s setback is unclear, with doubts now surrounding his availability for Chelsea. But Sylvinho’s update indicates the forward is still struggling with fitness issues related to his serious knee injury. Broja will now focus on rehabilitation back at Chelsea rather than risking his condition for Albania.
