Mauricio Pochettino provides vague update on Romeo Lavia ahead of Chelsea’s next game
In a recent press conference covered by football.london, Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino provided a somewhat vague answer when asked about the current situation of Romeo Lavia who is yet to make his debut.
Chelsea fans have been quite eager to see new signing Lavia touch the ball in a blue jersey. However, manager Pochettino still hasn’t provided him with the chance to make his debut for the team.
When asked about when Lavia might don Chelsea colors in an official match, he replied that he still isn’t sure as the 19-year-old is still under assessment.
“We don’t know because we need to assess him.”
Chelsea had signed Lavia this summer from Southampton in a £58m deal. But this young defensive midfielder still hasn’t had the chance to prove his high price tag right as the club manager Pochettino has continued to bench him.
Pochettino revealed that Lavia had twisted his ankle in recent training. This disappointed him as the Belgian was doing well in training.
“I think we are really disappointed because he was training really well. He twisted his ankle and now we are waiting for Monday to get the assessment from the doctor.”
It seems Pochettino thinks that the former Southampton man is still not match fit. This is certainly a disappointment as Lavia is a young gun with a very good resume.
This summer, he joined the Blues after rejecting a move to Liverpool. The signing came almost immediately after Moises Caicedo’s arrival, which further excited our fanbase. But for some reason, the teenager is yet to play for us.
Pochettino has chosen to remain tight-lipped about Lavia’s situation. This is certainly a bit troubling as the young Belgian does indeed has great potential. Perhaps it can be speculated that Pochettino is giving him some time to get acquainted with his particular style of play.
