According to Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham Hotspur never sent an offer for Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher on transfer deadline day despite having a concrete interest in the midfielder.
Spurs had interest but never made a £40 million bid for the midfielder, and Chelsea are happy to count on the player, although the England international will face competition for playing minutes.
It was thought that the North Londoners had made a £40 million bid for the midfielder, but Chelsea held out for more as they were asking for £48 million.
With Chelsea bringing Cole Palmer, Moises Caicedo, and Romeo Lavia, Gallagher will have plenty of competition now to earn enough game time. Pochettino is also happy to keep the midfielder, who has shown great commitment to the club despite Chelsea’s poor form in the last four games.
It was understood that Tottenham wanted to offload Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg which could have allowed them to make a move for the 23-year-old. Gallagher has started in all four Premier League games and also captained Chelsea in their 2-1 win over AFC Wimbledon in the Carabao Cup.
With club games pausing for the international break, Pochettino will also have Romeo Lavia, Benoit Badiashile, and Armando Broja for Chelsea’s next game.
After all he has accomplished, Gallagher most definitely deserves to remain at Chelsea, and his commitment to the team is genuinely admirable.
He has demonstrated his tenacity, and the team needs players like him. Under Pochettino, the midfielder has also shown signs of development, which is undoubtedly beneficial for us as his presence also adds depth to the midfield.
He is still just 23 years old and his best is yet to come. Surprisingly, at that age, he is one of the senior figures in the team, especially in midfield, where he will be looking to form partnerships with Enzo Fernandez, Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo.
It would have hurt to see a Cobham graduate play for Spurs. He is first team quality and we cannot afford to offload relatively proven players to sign unknown quantities anymore.
