Former football star and current pundit Robbie Savage has made a bold prediction and claimed Chelsea will finish in the top four of the Premier League with Mauricio Pochettino at the helm this season.
Following the club’s poor start to the new season with two defeats and a win, Savage feels Chelsea have great and hungry players to lead the club to the top four by the end of the campaign. It will take some showing for us to turn around our fortunes successfully
Chelsea’s exorbitant spending has yet to pay dividends on the pitch. We currently stand 12th in the Premier League table, and now with an international break in between, Pochettino will hope to make a renewed effort to get into the top four once the club games return.
However, The former Manchester United manager remains optimistic about Chelsea’s performance and feels that under Pochettino they will certainly change the fortunes of the club, (h/t Metro) he further told Planet Sport Bet:
”They’ve signed so many good, hungry players, and with a manager like Pochettino and the way he can develop players and teams, I think that Chelsea will still finish in the top four. With no European football, the extra time on the training pitch is going to be so valuable to Pochettino.”
‘’When you look at how many players they’ve brought in, it is going to take him a lot of time to galvanise this group and to get them playing the way that he wants. Pochettino has to find a system where the striker will score 20 or more goals a season, as the last No. 9 to do that for Chelsea was Diego Costa. And as soon as he does that, I think Chelsea will start firing on all cylinders and will, with time, be a huge success and start challenging for trophies under him.”
Savage appears to have a solid impression of Pochettino and believes the club will soon challenge for trophies under the Argentine. We hope his belief comes true and Chelsea rediscover that silverware sinning touch under new management.
Savage has also been spot-on with his statement on the profligacy upfront. Our inability to score goals has been our only issue, but if we fix that, we will undoubtedly have a championship-calibre team. We’ve dominated the last four games despite losing them and recorded the most shots against the opposition, so we need a reliable No. 9.
It will take time for Nicolas Jackson to settle in, but once he does, we should expect to see him score a lot of goals each season. We should be patient with him since it took Didier Drogba more than a season to find his rhythm.
We have a group of young players that require proper development, which is why Mauricio Pochettino is here. If the board and fans want a competitive team, they must be patient, and eventually, we will have one.
