Chelsea informed on the conditions to sign Brentford striker Ivan Toney
According to popular Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Brentford have informed both Chelsea and Arsenal about the conditions that they would have to meet if they want to sign star striker Ivan Toney.
Speculation over Ivan Toney’s future is heating up as the Brentford striker nears the end of his FA betting ban while being linked heavily with Chelsea. The 27-year-old England international also recently switched agencies to join super agent Jonathan Barnett’s CAA Stellar, fueling transfer rumours.
Toney, a highly coveted Premier League striker, is presently serving an eight-month suspension for breaching the FA’s strict betting rules. Despite the ban, he continues to be mentioned as a transfer target for the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal, and Tottenham.
In a recent tweet, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano revealed that Arsenal and Chelsea remain at the forefront of Toney’s transfer speculations. Both clubs have been informed of potential conditions of the deal that is highly likely to take place in January or the next summer.
Brentford currently value Toney at £50-60 million amidst his desire to leave.
Chelsea are keen to sign the English international to solve their goal-scoring woes, having scored just once in their last 4 games. However, Arsenal have also shown interest in Toney. This could spark a bidding war between the two elite clubs for the prolific striker.
Toney is currently training during his ban to stay fit for his return in mid-January. He began his career at his hometown club Northampton Town. After playing for Newcastle and Peterborough United, he finally signed for Brentford in 2020.
Signing Toney will be a huge win for Chelsea
The Blues may reignite their pursuit in January as Toney fits the profile of players targeted by manager Mauricio Pochettino. At 27, Toney is currently in the best years of his career.
Chelsea have been a complete mess in the attacking department this season. With Christopher Nkunku injured, £32 million signing Nicolas Jackson has immensely underperformed for the Blues. He has missed a number of big scoring chances that came his way.
In this situation, Toney would prove to be an upgrade on Jackson as he is a proven goalscorer. Let’s not forget we have Armando Broja in our ranks too but Toney brings with him a proven goal-scoring pedigree in the Premier League and bags of experience in English football.

But Brentford would certainly not make life easy for any buying club. For now, Chelsea must make sure they lay the groundwork to get a deal done in January. Hopefully, the player himself sees Gabriel Jesus, Eddie Nketiah and Leandro Trossard’s presence at Arsenal and understands a move to Chelsea would be better for his prospect of gametime.
