Real Madrid will try to make move for Chelsea captain Reece James next summer
According to Spanish publication Sport, Real Madrid are set to rekindle their interest in signing new Chelsea captain Reece James next summer. The full-back is currently nursing a hamstring injury as his injury woes continue.
The Spanish giants sees James as the replacement for stalwart Dani Carvajal, but the West Londoners have no intention to sell the academy player. After all, there is little reason to make James the new skipper unless he is backed to have a key role in Mauricio Pochettino’s long-term plans.
It is understood the market value of the much-vaunted right-back is in the region of €65 million. But Los Blancos will negotiate from €40 million, which might as well be ignored lest face eventual rejection.
Madrid have been in the market for a right-back as Carvajal has now slowed down in terms of performance. They also had an interest in Joao Cancelo, Juan Foyth, and Davide Calabria but the Chelsea man is the best option of the lot. James renewed his contract last year, which will keep him at the club until 2028, and it’s unlikely the Blues will sell their most prized asset.
Chelsea and Real have done many transfers together, as the West Londoners have sold the likes of Eden Hazard, Thibaut Courtois, and Antonio Rudiger to the Spanish club in the past.
The Chelsea right-back is in his last stage of recovery after suffering a hamstring injury in Chelsea’s opening game against Liverpool and could return after the international break.
Chelsea have no intention of parting with their most prized possession to Real Madrid. It will be hilarious for both the club and the player if Real offer James an initial €40 million bid to kick off the negotiations. Although Chelsea would instead ask twice as much for James, arguably the top right-back in Europe right now, it’s still difficult to imagine Chelsea parting with the player.
We are aware that anything may happen, and a Hazard-type transfer may take place if Real go bananas for the 23-year-old.

James is a popular member of Chelsea and won’t be leaving anytime soon; therefore, the West Londoners will certainly not sell their captain for barely €40 million.
