A View From The Bridge

“Owners are disappointed”- Pochettino makes admission after Chelsea’s loss to Aston Villa

Chelsea coach Mauricio Pochettino admits that club owners are disappointed with current situation

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino recently acknowledged club owners are understandably disappointed with results but continue backing his vision.

Fabrizio Romano via X, revealed how the Chelsea hierarchy continues to support Pochettino’s vision despite massive early disappointments. Despite the discontent, the Chelsea board maintains a belief in the Argentine’s long-term project.

Todd Boehly and co. appointed the former Tottenham Hotspur boss this summer after the club failed to get a string of good results under Graham Potter and Frank Lampard. But the rot has continued.

After the latest 1-0 league loss against Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge, Poch said:

Yes, of course the owners are disappointed — but at the same time they need to support the plan. We have the squad we have, we need try to build the confidence and give them all of the support they need”.

Chelsea spent over $1.1bn since new owners Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital took over last year. But massive investment has not translated into success yet.

The Blues finished 12th last season in the premier league and this season they stand at 14th having secured just 5 points from 6 games. The attack has been poor once again despite the outlay on players like Nicolas Jackson and Cole Palmer this summer.

While the leadership wants better results, Mauricio Pochettino says they understand the challenges he faces steering Chelsea through transition. Their continued backing gives him confidence.

Chelsea have entered a transitional period where they aim to focus on cultivating young talent rather than spending huge sums on established stars. While results have been poor, Pochettino maintains belief in the long-term plan. With the board’s continued backing, he aims to steer Chelsea out of their early-season struggles.

In another tweet on September 22nd, Romano revealed how the Chelsea Boss had asserted that the Blues’s leadership shares his vision and feelings about the project.

“We talking with sporting directors, they are supporting the project. They are not disappointed because we have similar feelings about the project. We have to work hard, all together — we all want to win”.

With fan unrest brewing though, Pochettino faces pressure to turn Chelsea’s form around. The fact that the Blues have been missing 10 first-team players due to injury, has also been a nasty thorn in Pochettino’s side

Staying patient through early adversity will be key. The owners seem willing to exhibit some leniency thus far. But Pochettino ultimately needs to repay their faith soon. If poor results persist, even the board’s support may waver.
