Mauricio Pochettino has warned Chelsea star Nicolas Jackson to remain disciplined and avoid getting booked for dissent after the striker has picked up four yellow cards in his last five Premier League games.
Jackson, who joined the West Londoners from Villarreal, has become an increasingly frustrated figure, having recorded just one goal in the past five matches.
The Blues are currently 14th in the Premier League table, and they face a tough side on Sunday. They will be looking to change the current situation of the team’s performance after just one win since the start of the new campaign.
The Senegalese international will be suspended if he picks up another yellow card against Aston Villa on Sunday. Despite putting on an encouraging showing, the 22-year-old has been futile in front of the net. Given our lack of strikers, this is not something we can afford to happen.
But Mauricio Pochettino told reporters he held a meeting with Nicolas Jackson and has told him to work on his discipline as he gets booked for unnecessary reasons., (h/t Mirror), He further stated:
“I had a meeting today (Friday) with Nicolas and Enzo (Fernandez). I said, Come on, a striker with four yellow cards for protesting? You need to get yellow cards, but for different actions, not for that. Not so easy, so cheap. It’s going to put him in a very difficult situation with the team.”
When refereeing decisions don’t go your way, one is bound to be frustrated but Jackson would be better off learning to control his emotions. He should also be aware that he can calmly dispute with the officials instead of getting in their faces. He has already received a few yellow cards, and if the trend continues against Villa, he will be banned from the next game.
He is our only striker currently fit and available and if he is banned for a few games, then we will certainly be affected in matches. Hopefully, he will be careful next time when arguing with a referee.
