Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino was on the losing side as Aston Villa pipped the Blues to a 1-0 win at Stamford Bridge. This has led to Pochettino telling his players to ‘work on small details’
This was their third defeat in six Premier League games and with each defeat, there is now pressure growing on the manager to find a solution to the club’s poor form.
The Villains profited when Ollie Watkins gave them the lead in the 73rd minute despite the fact that Chelsea were the superior team and had enough opportunities to put the game to bed and secure some much-needed three points.
The Blues will also miss Nicolas Jackson and Malo Gusto, as both have been suspended for future fixtures after the former secured his fifth yellow card of the season and the latter was sent off with a straight red. This has frustrated the former Southampton boss, who has rallied his players to make amends, speaking to the press after the game, (h/t Mirror):
“We are competing and want to win, but players need to learn from experience and from making mistakes. That’s why we’re disappointed—we’ve got too many things like this. These things, this small detail, another small detail—in the end, we are losing a game. We are in a situation, and we need to change it as soon as possible.”
Despite frequently being the better team, we cannot keep losing or drawing games as it could endanger our position at the table. It makes sense that this is a long-term project, but we should also see encouraging results. To do so, we have to start winning games. The backline is decent but the forwards really need to step up in front of the goal and find a way to make the net bulge.
Fans are getting frustrated with our results and will put pressure on the board to make a decision on the Argentine manager if things don’t change soon. Hopefully, Pochettino finds us and himself a way out of this mess.
Working with a number of new players who are also new to the system, tactics, and each other is a demanding task. But we have the right man for the job. The pressure is huge at Chelsea because of the size of the club.
So a run of wins is required to stop the fanbase from losing faith in current management. We cannot completely sacrifice the present for hopefully having a bright future.
