Arsenal’s former player Lee Dixon has slammed Nicolas Jackson for his lack of finishing attributes and feels the Chelsea striker finishes like League Two players.
Jackson’s signing has seen quality acquisition as the striker has been an all-rounder but has lacked clinicality in front of goal. His work rate, physicality, and link-up play have been phenomenal, but in front of goal, he has been lacklustre.
The £32 million signing from Villarreal has only scored once in five Premier League games, but that number could have been considerably higher had he capitalised on his missed opportunities.
Jackson stands sixth in taking the most shots (17) in the Premier League, and only one has been on target. This will obviously improve with more games. Jackson has immense potential and the onus is now on Mauricio Pochettino and his team to get the best out of their striker.
Former Arsenal player feels Jackson possesses all the qualities expected for finishing, (h/t Metro), as speaking to NBC Sports’ The Two Robbies podcast:
‘’Jackson looks like he’s devoid of all confidence in front of goal. I was watching him in the game [against Bournemouth] playing on the shoulder, and he makes some good little runs.”
‘‘If you do that, you’ve always got half a chance. He gets in those positions, but what happens after that? Some of his shooting, wow. It was like League Two.”
Jackson offers all of the characteristics we look for in a striker, but his finishing needs work. Dixon’s words here make sense since Jackson needs to be more explosive in front of the goal and must remain calm because occasionally he rushes his chances and ends up losing his composure. Except for good finishing from him; he also knows where to be when making runs, as Dixon said.
Perhaps it would be better if he had individual coaching from Chelsea for his finishing, as there are instances when you need to work one-on-one with a club’s seasoned striker to fix your other flaws. Once he finds a solution to that and starts scoring goals, the team will have a feared striker.
