Chelsea legend John Terry has asked fans that they don’t judge Mason Mount moving to Manchester United as he feels there are always two sides to a story. The midfielder joined the Red Devils during the summer transfer window for a fee of £55 million, which could eventually rise to £60 million.
The former Chelsea academy player signed a five-year deal and will have the option to extend it for another year at Old Trafford. The supporters never anticipated that one of their most significant academy players would abruptly depart the club.
The Blues tried their utmost to keep the midfielder at Chelsea, but he already made his decision to leave. At Chelsea, the midfielder steered the club to the Champions League in the 2020–21 season.
Because he was a fan favourite, Mount’s departure wasn’t well received, by several Chelsea fans. However, it was his decision, and keeping a player against his wishes would only have had negative effects on the team, perhaps even translating to poor
However, former centre-back Terry feels there are two sides to the story after his move to Manchester United, as he told Simon Philips, quoted by Fabrizio Romano:
“Mase is proper Chels through and through. There are always two sides to a story, and I know the other side. I’m not going to air that now, but there’s another side to the story. Let’s not be too harsh on Mason when he comes back.”
Since the Blues made every effort to preserve their youth product at the club, we don’t actually know what happened behind the scenes. He didn’t want to stay, though, so we had no choice but to part ways. It’s an old tale now, and we’ve already added great midfielders to our squad to take his place, so bringing up a player who isn’t one of our players any longer makes sense.
We never know; if he had stayed here, he might have etched his name in the history of Chelsea like the club’s legend Terry. It’s really tough to find players like Terry who are fully committed to the club nowadays.
