Chelsea have injury scare after Mykhaylo Mudryk was stretched off against England
According to Metro, Chelsea could include another player to their injury list after Mykhaylo Mudryk hobbled off with a calf problem during Ukraine’s game against England in the Euro 2024 qualifiers.
The Chelsea forward was in the starting line-up as both nations held on to a 1-1 draw, but Mudryk asked to be replaced during the 90th minute of the game, giving the Blues another injury scare.
The former Shakhtar Donetsk player fell to the floor after he failed to get past Kyle Walker. During the first half, Mudryk required medical treatment after a tackle by Marcus Rashford.
He was fit enough to start, but in the second half, the calf problem he suffered proved hard to deal with, which saw him get subbed off. If the injury is serious the Ukrainian will add to the growing list of Chelsea’s ailments after Romeo Lavia sustained an injury during training.
Other players such as Christopher Nkunku, Reece James, Wesley Fofana, Carney Chukwuemeka, and Trevoh Chalobah are already nursing their respective injuries.
The extent of Mudryk’s injury is yet unknown, but given that their next match is in seven days, the Blues will be hoping it’s only a minor knock that will keep him out for a few days. This is a crucial period for him.
Mudryk is enduring a very poor season and it’s a pity that we all thought his signing would give the team one of the top talents. He has been unlucky with his erratic form and also has been barely given game time.
Chelsea have had a string of unfortunate injuries, but Mudryk’s potential absence may not be felt a lot because of how little he has been utilised. That being said, it would take away a huge weapon from Poch’s arsenal when it comes to depth.
