Chelsea star Moises Caicedo dealing with injury concern ahead of Bournemouth clash

According to football.london, Chelsea star Moises Caicedo was pictured with a strap around his knee following the international game for Ecuador against Uruguay earlier this month.

The 21-year-old signed for the Blues this summer in what is a British club record transfer fee. Expectations are high for him to make a big difference in Blue but the start to his life in West London has been less than complimentary.

Caicedo experienced mixed success against Argentina but impressed against Uruguay. Any hope Chelsea fans had of translating that to the club level is now in doubt. Hopefully, Caicedo’s knock is not serious and he will shake it off in time to face Bournemouth this weekend.

The Ecuadorian ace was pictured with a strapped-up right thigh, indicating what could be a minor knock. He was seen sporting a blue kinesiology tape around his knee. It is an approach that aids movement and helps the muscles around a joint. Given that he was moving easily enough, the steps might be more of a precaution than anything to worry about.

Chelsea return to league action on Sunday when they travel to the Vitality Stadium to face the Cherries. Having won just once all season in the Premier League, Mauricio Pochettino will hope that his players kickstart their season with a comfortable win. Bournemouth are no pushovers, especially at home and it is in the Blues’ best interests to prepare well. In his pre-match presser, Mauricio Pochettino said earlier today (h/t Football.London):

“We will need to assess him but we hope so [he’s ready].”

Malo Gusto also appears to be carrying a knock.

The 21-year-old is not the only player to pick up a knock at Stamford Bridge. Malo Gusto was also seen with a thigh strap but is expected to be fit in time for the weekend. Surely, we can hope for better luck in terms of injuries.

Caicedo can form a formidable midfield duo in the middle of the Chelsea lineup alongside Enzo Fernandez. It will take time for him to get used to a new club and tactics, in spite of the heavy price tag. Money does not guarantee success, at least right off the bat. Patience is key for fans and the management as Caicedo comes into his own. The sooner he is comfortable in Blue, the more he can make an impact on the field.

Caicedo is one of the best young midfielders in world football and he was a difference-maker for Brighton & Hove Albion last season. As long as he goes on to develop as expected, we are set in the defensive midfielder’s role for years to come
