Chelsea failed with summer deadline day bid for the new ‘Neymar’

Chelsea made an unsuccessful transfer bid for Antonio Nusa in the summer

Premier League giants Chelsea made an unsuccessful transfer bid for promising young Norwegian striker Antonio Nusa in the recently concluded summer transfer window.

The 18-year-old came through the ranks at Langhus and Stabaek before moving to Club Brugge in 2021. He has since made 46 appearances for the Belgian giants, scoring four goals and assisting three more across all competitions.

Nusa might not have hit prolific numbers yet but his potential is clear for all to see. He recently was called up for the Scandinavian nation’s senior side for the upcoming friendly against Jordan and the Euro 2024 qualifier against Georgia. It is just a matter of time before he wins his first cap for Stale Solbakken’s side.

It is no secret that Chelsea were in search of a striker in the final days of the summer transfer window. While they eventually brought in Cole Palmer, the former Manchester City prospect was not the only one on their radar. Speaking to TV2 via Sportwitness (h/t football.london), the player confirmed that an offer was made by Chelsea but that he was unaware of it at that point in time.

The bid of £30 million did not work in Chelsea’s favour as Nusa continued his stint at Club Brugge. His current deal with the Belgian giants expires in 2027 and it remains to be seen if Chelsea will return for the 18-year-old’s services.

Todd Boehly is not known for keeping his chequebook closed.

Nusa takes after Brazilian ace Neymar and has also been compared to the former Paris Saint-Germain striker. While the shoes could prove to be too biug to fill, Nusa certainly harbours big ambitions.

Just 18, he has the potential to be a top class player and will only get better with time. Chelsea have secured themselves some of the world’s best young players in recent years and Nusa would fit in well at Cobham. A strong showing in the 2023-24 season should only steel Todd Boehly’s resolve to land his man.

Nusa has already become the second-youngest Champions League goalscorer ever. He is also the second youngest goalscorer in the Norwegian top flight and also became the youngest scorer in Club Brugge’s history. Surely, this is just the start of his legacy.
