Chelsea eyeing a move for 18-year-old Borussia Dortmund attacking sensation

Chelsea looking to bolster their attacking options by signing Borussia Dortmund wonderkid Youssoufa Moukoko

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Chelsea are prepared to make a bid of €30 million (£26 million) to sign Borussia Dortmund forward Youssoufa Moukoko before the upcoming January transfer window.

The 18-year-old forward might be open to joining the Blues due to their interest, with the aim of securing more playing time. This would be important if he wants to earn a spot in Germany’s squad for the Euro 2024 tournament.

So far this season, Moukoko has faced challenges in getting significant playing time under coach Edin Terzic at Signal Iduna Park. Most of his appearances have been as a second-half substitute, totalling just 61 minutes of play across five games, during which he scored one goal.

In the previous season, the German star played a pivotal role for Die Borussen as they competed closely with Bayern Munich for the Bundesliga title. Unfortunately, they narrowly missed out on the title on the final matchday of the season.

During that season, he made 35 appearances, scored seven goals, and contributed six assists in various competitions. Dortmund also reached the UEFA Champions League round of 16.

Since making his debut for the club against Hertha Berlin, the striker has accumulated 77 appearances, scored 13 goals, and provided eight assists, establishing himself as one of the Bundesliga’s most promising young talents. Moukoko could be a valuable addition to Chelsea’s squad, and under the guidance of Mauricio Pochettino, he has the potential to develop into one of the world’s top forwards.

It is also said that Chelsea are set to face strong competition from Barcelona in their pursuit of signing the highly-rated young talent. Moukoko came close to leaving Dortmund last summer, but the transfer fell through. However, he extended his contract with Dortmund until January 2026, which suggests that Dortmund will likely demand a higher fee for the talented forward.

The Blues are currently in a rebuilding phase and are actively trying to sign some of the world’s best youngsters. Their progress this season has been hindered by injuries, as they currently sit in 14th place in the Premier League table with only five points.

They have managed to secure only one victory, suffered two losses, and played to two draws. Their performance has put them in a challenging position, trailing 10 points behind the leaders and defending champions, Manchester City, despite having played just five matches.

One of Chelsea’s summer signings, Nicolas Jackson, has been struggling to find his form, as he has only managed to score one goal in his five appearances. Hence, in order to remain competitive with other top clubs, Chelsea will require their forwards to consistently find the back of the net.

Moukoko could be a top signing for the West London side. Although he is still very young, he has the capability to develop even further at Stamford Bridge. However, the fans should still remain patient with Jackson and give him some time to adjust to the intensity of the English league.

It’s too early to write him off, considering the fact that he is leading the line for the Blues in every game this season.
