Chelsea hope to take the next step towards the redevelopment of Stamford Bridge
According to the Evening Standard, Chelsea are hoping to rebuild Stamford Bridge and are hoping to get the green light to buy a plot next to the stadium for £65 million.
Purchasing a 1.2-acre neighbouring site next to the stadium, which is owned by the veterans charity Stoll, will help the Blues remain in their roots rather than move to a new home. The West Londoners have already agreed with Stoll, and a deal is expected to be presented on Wednesday, which could lead to a nine-week consultation with residents regarding the plans.
The owners will take a decision in October for Todd Boehly to begin the redevelopment of Stamford Bridge and expand the seats from 42,000 to at least 55,000. However, there are also cons to extending the arena’s capacity, as it could affect 100 local military pensioners whose homes are at the Sir Oswald Stoll Mansions site.
However, the charity says the plans will include 20 flats that will be retained and invested in new properties for the residents. The Blues defeated 13 rival bids to land the place, which has been put up for auction by estate agent Knight Frank. West Londoners co-owner Jonathan Goldstein, who is a London-based property developer and chief executive officer at real estate company Cain International, is overseeing the project.
The club will gain a lot from an increase in stadium capacity in terms of more spectators attending games and the revenue the team will generate from ticket sales. Stamford Bridge is now smaller than other elite European clubs’ stadiums and this is the first step towards bridging that gap. Hopefully, an amicable agreement can be reached that benefits all parties.

Although it may take time, once construction on the stadium begins, there will be more people attending the games. This means more revenue for the club and maybe in future, we hope to make our stadium as big as Camp Nou and Santiago Bernabeu.
