Report: Chelsea co-owner was seen entering the dressing room following defeat to Aston Villa

Chelsea co-owner Behdad Eghbali went straight to the dressing room after the final whistle vs Aston Villa

Chelsea FC’s winless streak continued on Sunday as Mauricio Pochettino’s side suffered a 1-0 defeat against Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. After the final whistle, co-owner Behdad Eghbali was seen heading into the Blues’ dressing room.

According to Fabrizio Romano, (h/t Express), Eghbali went to the dressing room to speak to players and has backed Pochettino to be the ‘face’ of their expensive project. The former Tottenham Hotspur manager later revealed the owners were disappointed with another loss but need to support the plan.

Ollie Watkins’ 73rd-minute goal was enough to seal a deal for the Blues, who were reduced to 10 men after a red card to Malo Gusto. The Blues’ struggles in front of goal have remained a key reason for their defeats, and new signings haven’t been effective in turning things around.

Chelsea owners Todd Boehly and Eghbali have spent £1 billion in the transfer window since taking over the club in May 2022; among them, the acquisition of Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez was the biggest signing the club made. Now the club is once again into a mess with just one win in six Premier League, the defeat to Villa prompted BlueCo ownership group to head into the dressing room.

It makes sense that they took their time choosing Pochettino and that they believe it will take him an extended period to make a difference with this young, inexperienced team. We also can’t hold the Argentine manager responsible for the team’s bad performance because he hasn’t had access to the whole roster he did during preseason, which would have allowed him to play the same lineup that made for exciting football.

Pochettino is the right person to lead this club, and our co-owner is aware of the circumstances, but we also hope to see some forward movement. We have made significant performance improvements; all we need is that extra edge in front of the goal, and we will undoubtedly recover.
