Injury Update: Chelsea fear summer signing could be ruled out for six weeks

Chelsea are weighing up a move for talented youngster playing in the Championship

Chelsea are sweating on the fitness of Belgian midfielder Romeo Lavia

According to Daily Mail, Chelsea are worried that midfielder Romeo Lavia could be sidelined for up to six weeks after damaging his ankle during full training earlier this month.

The former Southampton player underwent an ankle scan, and it was understood the midfielder has ligament damage, giving Chelsea another injury headache. This is further bad news for Mauricio Pochettino as he struggles to upturn the club’s fortunes.

He could miss out for a month and a half, although the Blues have yet to confirm the severity of his injury, which should become clear soon. This will further delay the midfielder’s debut for Chelsea following his summer switch.

Since his £58 million move from Southampton, Lavia has been training to return to full fitness and has missed five Chelsea’s games but now it seems he could join injured players.

An injury to the Belgian will also see fewer options in midfield after Carney Chukwuemeka is set to remain out for a long period. They currently have Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo, Conor Gallagher, and Lesley Ugochukwu as options in the middle of the pitch.

The Blues will face Bournemouth, Aston Villa, Fulham, and Burnley in the Premier League and Brighton in the Carabao Cup before the next international break in October. Since the Blues have fallen in two of their previous four games, pressure is mounting on Pochettino to reverse the trend against Bournemouth on September 17.

The Chelsea injury situation has been a burden, and we need to investigate how players have sustained injuries repeatedly and then continued to do so after returning to play. Since last season, when half the team was injured, this pattern has continued, and it seems to be continuing this season as well.

Lavia’s injury seems serious given the lengthy time needed to heal. His absence is bad news for us, given we need options in our midfield all we can hope for he isn’t out for a long period of time, as we will soon need him. At 19, his best years are ahead of him and will hopefully put his injury troubles behind him soon.
