Ben Jacobs has revealed that Antonio Nusa decided to remain at Club Brugge due to Chelsea FC’s project, which emphasises on building a team around young players. The Blues had their £23 million rejected by the Belgian club earlier in the summer transfer window.
However, Jacobs says that the West Londoners will once again approach Brugge for Nusa in the 2024 summer transfer window. By then, the competition will only increase for the forward, as it is thought that at least 20 clubs are keeping tabs on his progress.
It is also understood that Nusa could have joined Chelsea had the club sold Ian Maatsen or Conor Gallagher during the recently finished summer transfer window. However, it was not to be and we now find ourselves in a position to make
Meanwhile, the Norwegian has been making history at age 18, when he became the second-youngest goalscorer in Champions League history after netting in the 4-0 away win over FC Porto in the group stage last September. He certainly has the minerals to be a top player and one can understand why several clubs are lining up for his signature.
Transfer expert Jacobs has provided further updates on Chelsea’s pursuit of Nusa and told GiveMeSport:
“From what I’m told, Nusa spoke to the manager there and very quickly decided that it was not the right time to move, especially not to Chelsea, because you look at their project full of other young stars and, to an extent, uncertainty, and unless Chelsea could buy him and, for example, loan him back, his gametime could well have been limited.”
While Nusa’s rejection stings, It makes sense since we already have a lot of young players who haven’t reached their full promise, and if Chelsea had been successful in signing him, he might have been sent out on loan for more growth.
Therefore, adding Nusa to his roster could have caused Mauricio Pochettino more trouble while also impeding the player’s ability to advance at Chelsea. Given our current form, he would have regretted joining us this early. While we do need a reliable forward, it makes more sense to go for someone with ample experience.
He is only 18 and has a lot of talent. So while we may consider signing him in the future, for now, we must nurture our younger players and alter the way the team is currently playing. This is because adding young players haphazardly won’t improve the club’s situation.
