Bayern Munich are prepared to revive their interest in Trevoh Chalobah who was thought to be frozen out of the squad. But recently, Mauricio Pochettino confirmed he is part of his plans at Stamford Bridge.
As per Football Insider, (h/t Daily Mail), Thomas Tuchel’s side will once again make a visit for the centre-back in January, and the German manager is a massive admirer of the 24-year-old after giving him his debut in 2021.
During the summer window, Bayern were hoping to sign Chalobah on loan as the talks took place, but a transfer never materialised. The academy player was also courted by Nottingham Forest, who submitted a £25 million offer, and Tottenham had also expressed an interest.
The 24-year-old eventually stayed at Chelsea and is now a bench player who is sliding down the ladder of importance. After Wesley Fofana suffered an injury, they purchased Axel Disasi rather than using Chalobah.
With Benoit Badiashile nearing his return from injury, first-team minutes will increasingly become tough for Chalobah, and now a move looks feasible.
However, Chalobah is currently recovering from a niggling hamstring injury, which is why he missed Sunday’s clash against Bournemouth, where we drew 0-0 at the Vitality Stadium.
Joining Bayern will new start to his life where he can be reunited with a manager who handed him the Chelseas’s debut and knows his potential. Working with Tuchel could also lead to a revival in form.
The fact that Chalobah isn’t even a starter for us at the moment and that we have good depth in the defence further emphasises why the player could consider his future here. His career could suffer if he stays since he will spend most of his time sitting on the bench.
Given that the former Chelsea manager hasn’t been convinced by Matthijs De Ligt’s style of play, Chalobah will have an opportunity to force his way into the German starting lineup at Bayern. From Chelsea’s point of view, it will be another potential sale of a Cobham graduate.
We have to make sure that we don’t lose the essence and identity of this Chelsea team because too much of change at once can be harmful as well. He is a good backup defender, and while the move may make sense for the player, the Blues should go the extra distance to keep him here.
