Axel Disasi has recommended his Chelsea colleagues to develop a killer instinct in the opposition box after the Blues were held to a 0-0 draw against Bournemouth. Following the final whistle, the Mauricio Pochettino side was whistled out of the Vitality Stadium yesterday, indicating fans’ frustration due to the club’s paucity of wins.
Another draw leaves them in 14th place in the table, and now the Blues fixtures will start to get tough as Chelsea will next face Aston Villa on September 24th, then Brighton & Hove Albion in the Carabao Cup. Unless the performances pick up, we might have to write off another campaign.
Although Chelsea were by far the brighter team, their luck in front of goal remained elusive as Nicolas Jackson, Conor Gallagher, and Levi Colwill blew significant opportunities. The lack of an infallible goalscorer really hurt us and prevented the side from coming away with all three points.
New signing Disasi believes a lack of killer instincts is holding them back in games, and he also feels they have been unlucky as well. Speaking after the game, (h/t Evening Standard), he said:
“We have to keep going in this way but be more killers in the opponents’ box. We created many chances, so we have to keep doing this, but we have to kill the opponent.”
What Disasi pointed out is true, and we need to be vicious in front of the goal. However, yesterday, when we were in the opponent’s box, we appeared to be completely lost and unsure of what to do. We didn’t test Neto sufficiently and despite having clear-cut chances the players preferred to pass the ball rather than attempt a shot.
Most top teams have an infallible goalscorer and it is high time Chelsea brought one in. The most successful Blues sides all have had prolific goalscorers. It is time that we revisit that proven formula.
However, with opportunities arising, they must take advantage of them since, despite being the superior team, we cannot continue to lose or draw games. It is obvious that scoring goals is the most crucial thing, so we must quickly create those killer insinuations in front of the goal.
