West Ham reach agreement with 25-year-old Chelsea target

Romeo Lavia more likely to join Chelsea than Edson Alvarez.

West Ham United reach personal agreement with Chelsea target Edson Alvarez

West Ham United could sign Chelsea target Edson Alvarez after agreeing to personal terms with the midfielder, as the Blues look to find an alternative option for Moises Caicedo.

According to Fabrizio Romano, (h/t Mirror), the Hammers are leading Chelsea in pursuit of Edson Alvarez as they reached an agreement in personal terms, while the Blues continue their pursuit of Caicedo.

The West Londoners remain consistent in their quest to sign the Ecuadorian midfielder, despite their bid getting dismissed multiple times by Brighton & Hove Albion.

They are also now exploring multiple options, with Alvarez, Tyler Adams, and Leonardo Paredes among them, if they fail to sign the 21-year-old midfielder from Brighton.

The Blues also made a bid of £43 million for the 25-year-old, which was rejected by Ajax. This has seen the midfielder go on strike to make the transfer happen. However, the Blues could see their target joining another London club.

Chelsea, meanwhile, remain in the hunt for a defensive midfielder following the departure of N’Golo Kante, as they are only left with Andrey Santos, who may not be ready to stamp his authority in his maiden Premier League season. Caicedo would be a smart signing but Alvarez, 25 and a 69-cap Mexican international, would have been a good alternative too.

It won’t be a big loss if we lose on his signing if we sign Caicedo. Alvarez appears to be a good acquisition, but it might take him a while to get used to the new league and adjust to the pace of the game in England.

Caicedo, meanwhile, has adjusted well to the football here. He would hopefully have a seamless transition here if we manage to get him.

Therefore, it would be wiser to invest in the acquisition of Caicedo, who will significantly improve the quality of our defensive midfield. Going for other alternatives would just raise the question of ‘ what if we just added a few more millions and signed the Brighton star instead’ whenever things go wrong in our midfield.
