Tottenham Hotspur could make a late move for Chelsea target Brennan Johnson
According to The Telegraph [Subscription Required] (h/t football.london), Tottenham Hotspur appear set to beat Chelsea to the signing of Nottingham Forest star Brennan Johnson.
The youngster was one of the Tricky Trees’ best players last season as they secured Premier League football for the second season in a row. This saw his reputation soar and several teams including Chelsea have taken notice of his talent.
Just 22, the Welsh star isn’t just a full international but is also experienced enough for his age. Johnson has the best years ahead of him and given his familiarity with the English game, should be a star in the top flight for years to come.
Chelsea have brought in several players this summer and Johnson is one of the targets on their radar. Capable of playing out wide on either flank and also as an attacking midfielder, the 22-year-old is a versatile attacker capable of suiting several systems.
This would have been good news for Mauricio Pochettino who employs a fluid attacking system. However, London rivals Tottenham Hotspur appear to have beaten us to the punch and are preparing an offer for the Welsh star. With just days left this summer before the transfer window slams shut, Spurs are preparing an offer to tempt Nottingham into selling their star man.
Tottenham are expected to make a bid of around £50 million, a massive amount for a player with just one season in the top flight. Spurs could sweeten the deal further for Nottingham by offering them players in exchange as well.
The players who could be made available are Davinson Sanchez and Bryan Gil. Gil can not just replace Brennan Johnson in the Nottingham squad but can be a direct replacement for him. Sanchez, meanwhile, could offer them some defensive solidity in what could be another campaign spent fighting relegation.

Tottenham appear to hold the initiative in the race for Chelsea and it is bad news for us. But as we saw with Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia, Chelsea are capable of blowing opposition teams out of the water with their might. Hopefully lightning will strike a third time for us this summer.
