PSG ban Chelsea target from team practice amidst impending summer transfer saga

PSG have barred Chelsea target Kylian Mbappe from training before their Ligue 1 season opener

Chelsea target Kylian Mbappe has been prohibited from training with his PSG teammates ahead of their 2023-24 Ligue 1 season opener against Lorient this coming weekend.

According to PA Media, (h/t Football.London) the 24-year-old has been barred from participating in Luis Enrique’s first-team training this week in the leadup to the 2023-24 season. Mbappe is enemy number one following his refusal to pen an extension this summer at the Parc Des Princes.

Paris Saint-Germain have been frequently finding ways to offload the former AS Monaco player to recoup some money after signing him. The 2018 World Cup winner has been linked with a host of European clubs, including Chelsea and Real Madrid.

It is also understood Mbappe is open to a move to West London for a season before assessing his option in 2024. However, Chelsea are not open to signing him for only a year and would rather seek to tie down for many seasons.

The deadline to extend Mbappe’s contract has passed, and the Frenchman has not yet made a commitment. This means he could leave for free in the summer of 2024 if any club should his deal continue to run out till then.

Above all the interested clubs, Real Madrid are the possible contenders to sign their top target, after failing to sign him last season, but are yet to submit an offer to PSG. But then, there is little reason for them to go big when they can land him for free in a year’s time.

PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe is prepared to make a summer move to Chelsea.

It makes no sense for Chelsea to go for Mbappe. Instead, we are better off using the money to re-invest into the squad and strengthen multiple positions. Both upfront and in central midfield, Chelsea could do with quality reinforcements.

Our goal for the upcoming season is to begin anew and rewrite the club’s fortunes. Having a player who makes an instant difference only to lave soon after could affect the attainability of our vision. While signing Mbappe would be the dream, it makes more sense for the club to look elsewhere and bring in a more practical alternative.
