“We are building something special”- Pochettino sends message to Chelsea fans ahead of Liverpool tie

Mauricio Pochettino has urged the fans to be patient as he will need time to make Chelsea competitive again

Mauricio Pochettino has urged Chelsea fans to trust the club’s process and be patient in the building process. This comes after a horrific season where we were managed by four separate managers, finished 12th in the Premier League, and won no silverware.

The Argentine manager was appointed Chelsea manager after the Blues changed four head coaches last season and finished 12th in the Premier League.

However, the appointment of Pochettino has seen the Blues make plenty of changes as they offloaded a plethora of players and made some headline signings as well, including Axel Disasi and Nicolas Jackson.

Under the Argentine manager, the club have looked convincing, as seen by their performance in pre-season games, but their Premier League opener against Liverpool on August 13th will underline how far the team have come under his guidance.

But Pochettino has urged that he will need time to transform the Blues into a competitive club. The former Southampton manager said:

“We are building something special I think. It’s a process and we need time. But in football you cannot ask for time and you need to deliver from now. We know that we are in Chelsea and even if we have young players that will be involved against Liverpool, the mentality is to win. We are preparing ourselves to know it will be tough the first game and then the next game also but we need to arrive with a good mentality.”

What Pochettino said is dead on; it will take him maybe a season to turn Chelsea into an elite squad. He will need the backing of the fans during this repair phase because they must have patience. The team is primarily made up of young players who may find it difficult to adapt to the Premier League in their debut season.

However, we can trust his approach considering what the 51-year-old accomplished at Tottenham Hotspur with limited financial backing. The young players would also have fire in their bellies to justify their price tag and announce themselves in the Premier League.

This could be career-defining campaigns for Mykhaylo Mudryk, Nicolas Jackson, Noni Madueke, Benoit Badiashile and other youngsters like them. Andrey Santos, Carney Chukwuemeka, Ian Maatsen and Lewis Hall are some of the many other starlets who will want to make it into Chelsea’s first-team this season.

Missing out on the top four for another season would be catastrophic for a club of our size. But as Poch said, this is a process that can take time. And he is a manager who should have our trust given what he has achieved in the past — not necessarily in terms of silverware but in terms of squad-building.
