Mauricio Pochettino seems set to revive Raheem Sterling’s poor form from last season after he held talks with the former Liverpool star in a one-on-one meeting.
According to the Times, (h/t Express) Pochettino wanted to find the perfect position for Sterling after the 28-year-old endured poor form last season.
The Argentine manager intended to help him rediscover his form at Chelsea, and during their one-on-one meeting, Sterling told Pochettino that playing with his back to the goal last season couldn’t help him score goals.
He further told the former Southampton manager that his constant switching of positions last season made it challenging to link up with his teammates which led to no chemistry between them.
Following their talks, it seems like Pochettino has finally found the perfect position for Sterling, who has now scored two goals in three games and has been electric with his performance.
He has looked more confident on the ball with his dribbles and creating chances. The England international was MOTM against Luton, with two goals and an assist to his name.
Hopefully, he will remain consistent with his performance, as he is among the few players who boast plenty of experience at Chelsea and his performance will also motivate young players to make great impressions.
Sterling and Pochettino appear to have benefited from their discussions because the 28-year-old has excelled in recent games, playing the right wing with vigour.
His performance last season might have been affected by the change in managers, with each of them carrying with them different styles and expectations. Not to mention, Sterling’s teammates were poor themselves, so it wasn’t just a problem with the former Manchester City winger.
It’s encouraging to see that Pochettino interacts with the players and offers assistance whenever possible. Hopefully, he applies the same strategy to the young players who struggled last season.
