“Score goals”- Pochettino backs 22-year-old star take on goal-scoring responsibility for Chelsea

Mauricio Pochettino says they have a quality striker in Nicolas Jackson who will make his mark

Mauricio Pochettino has claimed Nicolas Jackson is a top-quality striker who has adapted well despite coming from a different league and he is counting on the former Villarreal forward to make the difference this season.

The Senegalese was signed from Villarreal and has enjoyed an excellent pre-season under Pochettino, where he scored twice and made three assists, impressing the former Southampton head coach.

Pochettino is certain that Jackson will bring plenty of goals, as he has adjusted well at Chelsea during the pre-season. The Blues currently have Armando Broja and Jackson as their only centre-forward options, with Romelu Lukaku’s future up in the air and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang having already left for Olympique de Marseille.

Speaking to the press before their big clash against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge, Pochettino is assured that Jackson will be ready to make his mark (h/t Football.London). He said:

“He is a young player, but he has the quality to be here and score goals. We are enjoying the way he is working. He is working hard. He is a young player, but he has the quality to be here and score goals. You saw some games where he showed his quality.

Yes, of course, La Liga is different from the Premier League, but it was good to play the Summer Series in America because it was a test against English teams. It was really, really good for us.”

We have a talented goalscorer at the club’s disposal who is eager to leave his imprint. During preseason, we witnessed Jackson’s confidence and his ability to quickly establish a connection with teammates on the pitch.

Jackson has additionally demonstrated that he likes to take on defenders, has a good vision and can also create goalscoring chances. The 22-year-old should be looking to make his debut season in England one to remember, with quality around him to assist him.

Mykhaylo Mudryk, Enzo Fernandez, Raheem Sterling and Noni Madueke should think of themselves as the chief supplier to the Senegal international.

While there is undoubtedly room for development, the Argentine manager will seek to make the 22-year-old more effective. After moving from a foreign league, he has adjusted smoothly, and we can anticipate that it will take him a few Premier League games to get his groove in before we are confident he will lead the front line.
