Napoli have £25 million offer rejected by Celta Vigo for Chelsea target Gabri Veiga
Celta Vigo have rejected a £25 million offer from Serie A champions Napoli for Chelsea target Gabri Veiga, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter (h/t football.london).
The Italian outfit are interested in acquiring the services of the midfielder in the ongoing transfer window. However, the La Liga outfit want the Spaniard’s £34 million release clause to be paid.
It remains to be seen whether the Naples-based club will match the Balaidos Stadium side’s valuation. Along with the Blues, Premier League rivals Arsenal and Liverpool are also interested in the 21-year-old.
Veiga made his way through the youth ranks at Celta before breaking into the senior squad in the 2021/22 campaign. However, it was in the previous campaign that the youngster really shone.
In 40 appearances in all competitions for the Spanish outfit, the playmaker scored 11 goals and provided four assists. He mostly played as a number eight for the Balaidos Stadium side.
Napoli have seen some key figures leave this summer after their Scudetto win. Luciano Spalletti parted ways with the club and has been replaced by Rudi Garcia. In the middle of the park, they had Tanguy Ndombele on loan, who has returned to Tottenham Hotspur.
As for Chelsea, we have seen a massive squad clearout in the ongoing transfer window. One of our most important players of the last few years, Mason Mount, joined Manchester United.
We have also lost N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic and Ruben Loftus-Cheek from our engine room. Therefore, the Stamford Bridge side evidently need to add reinforcements in the middle of the park.
