“Four or five”- Pochettino to give youth an opportunity as prepare for Carabao Cup

Mauricio Pochettino to give Chelsea academy players an opportunity in the Carabao Cup against AFC Wimbledon

Mauricio Pochettino has revealed he wants to provide opportunities to Chelsea academy players and is set to deploy four or five of them in their Carabao Cup match against AFC Wimbledon.

The Blues have offloaded several academy graduates this summer, including Mason Mount, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, and Lewis Hall. However, there are many others coming through the ranks and Pochettino is keen to see what they can offer.

However, their spending has continued as they spent an abundance of money to bring in other young players, but the Blues will also hope to provide a chance to academy players. Striking the right balance between academy graduates and new additions is the way forward.

Pochettino will be looking to fill the bench with Chelsea’s academy players, The game against AFC Wimbledon will be an excellent chance to prove their worth and get an opportunity to play for the senior team.

Speaking to the media ahead of the Carabao Cup fixture, Pochettino has guaranteed that Cobham players will play, (h/t Evening Standard), as he said:

“I hope we can change this feeling for the fans in the future. It can again be the philosophy of the club. I think the record has always been fantastic, and we again need to reinforce and energise the academy. First, because we believe in them, and then because Chelsea is famous for bringing good players from the academy to the first team.”

We have been investing all of our funds in buying young players, but we should also give our academy players a chance to show off their talents. This will be a terrific opportunity for our academy players to develop into the next generation of Chelsea.

Academy players have a path to the senior team through the FA Cup and Carabao Cup matches, and let’s hope that they will take advantage of the possibility and prove their value to the club.
