“Not a big issue”- Pochettino allays fears regarding Chelsea star’s injury against Wimbledon

Mauricio Pochettino reveals that Chelsea star Levi Colwill is not seriously injured

Mauricio Pochettino has provided an update on the injury sustained by Levi Colwill injury after the centre-back seemed to pick up a knock as Chelsea won 2-1 over AFC Wimbledon in the Carabao Cup.

The 20-year-old will be available for the next game, according to the former Southampton manager, who insists the injury is not substantial. Colwill, who returned after a loan spell from Brighton & Hove Albion has started in Chelsea’s three matches.

This also gives relief to England manager Gareth Southgate, who is expected to call Colwill for England’s Euro qualifiers against Ukraine and Scotland.

The Blues came from behind to secure a spot in the second round after goals from Noni Madueke and Enzo Fernandez, while J. Tilley for Wimbledon

However, during the game, the Blues looked to have suffered another injury scare after Colwill was replaced in the 60th minute and went straight down the tunnel. But the Argentine manager has allayed fears of any injury, claimed there is nothing serious, (h/t Evening Standard), and told the reporters:

“No, he’s not injured. It’s not a big issue; it’s a small problem. He got ice on his ankle, but it’s not going to be a problem for the weekend.”

Since Benoit Badiashile is also recovering, we won’t have a reliable centre defender then, and Pochettino prefers using a three at the back. We believe it’s not a major injury considering how crucial Colwill is to us and how his absence at the back will be missed.

We need to examine the problem with the medical staff since it looks like we have become an injury-prone squad and players continue to sustain injuries even after they have recovered. The fact that Reece James was injured in the opening game of the season again demonstrates the need for safety measures to prevent player injuries. Just let’s hope Colwill will be prepared for the team’s upcoming game on September 2nd against Nottingham Forest.
