“The door is open”- Pochettinom sends out a clear message to ‘unhappy’ Chelsea stars

Mauricio Pochettino leaves exit door open for “unhappy” players at Chelsea

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino is open to parting ways with players who are “unhappy” at the Stamford Bridge side in the ongoing transfer window.

In the previous campaign, the Blues struggled to put in decent and consistent performances. We saw three managers come and go. While those in charge did not do themselves any favours, the players need to arguably take the blame for last season’s debacle as well.

With the arrival of the Argentine manager in the dugout, a new era has started at Chelsea. We saw glimpses of positivity in our first game of the 2023/24 term against Liverpool. The West London club were unfortunate not to get more from the match.

The Stamford Bridge side have made a number of additions to their squad this summer. As of late, the Blues have completed the signings of Moises Caicedo from Brighton & Hove Albion and Romeo Lavia from Southampton.

Axel Disasi, Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson are some of the other players who have joined Chelsea in recent weeks. Therefore, the gaffer has a big squad at his disposal but only a place for 11 players in the starting lineup.

Therefore, not everyone can expect to be handed regular game time. Speaking to the media via transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Pochettino has left the exit door open for players who are unwilling to fight for their place in the team.

“If they don’t want to fight for their place and feel part of the team playing or not playing, the door is open.”

After what transpired in the previous campaign, Chelsea cannot afford to have passengers in the squad. We arguably need players committed to the project and the vision the Argentine manager has for the Blues.

We still have the likes of Romelu Lukaku and Callum Hudson-Odoi on our books who seem to be out of the gaffer’s plans. There are also other players in the squad who will evidently not be guaranteed regular minutes.

Therefore, it is wise for Pochettino to be assertive and demand a hundred per cent from all his players. Those who do not have the stomach for the challenge are free to leave.
