“You cannot put it only on the club”- Pochettino hits out at Romelu Lukaku’s Chelsea situation

Mauricio Pochettino feels Chelsea and Romelu Lukaku are to blame for striker’s failed transfer

Mauricio Pochettino has claimed both Chelsea and Romelu Lukaku are responsible for the striker’s failed transfer situation, as the Blues are yet to find a new club for the Belgium international.

Lukaku, who joined the West Londoners for £97.5 million from Inter Milan in 2021, has been training separately from Chelsea players and has not played for the club since May 2022.

The Belgian striker was at Inter for the entire season on loan, and even upon his return, the situation hasn’t changed. Poch seems to be open to getting rid of Lukaku, having left him out of the opening-day PL matchday squad and signing Nicolas Jackson from Villarreal.

Juventus are in talks with Chelsea for a player-plus-cash deal that will see Dusan Vlahovic join the Stamford Bridge side, but Chelsea aren’t keen on signing the Serbian striker.

Now it remains questionable where the striker will end up before the end of the transfer window, but Pochettino has made his stance clear, (h/t BBC) saying:

“It’s two sides. You cannot put it solely on the club or the situation. It’s both sides. The situation is where it is because of two sides. It’s like when you have a player in or a player out. It’s because both sides arrive at an agreement.”

Chelsea are doing their best to sell the former Everton striker. But no club has shown interest so far that pleases both the player and the Blues.

Chelsea have also tried to force the striker to join a Saudi club, but he has been stubborn about that. Tottenham Hotspur have emerged as the latest club to show interest in signing the 30-year-old, but there has been no formal interest so far and on paper, this move honestly seems unlikely.

He obviously isn’t part of our plans but Spurs perhaps wouldn’t want to pay the bucks to sign a 30-year-old who has a different skill-set to Harry Kane. Moreover, it wouldn’t be shocking if Lukaku doesn’t want a move to Spurs to begin with.
