Fabrizio Romano reveals Chelsea are confident of signing Deivid Washington
According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are optimistic about the signing of Santos striker Deivid Washington as the Brazilian club Santos are set to accept the Blues’ €20 million (£18.3 million) bid for the player.
Chelsea’s focus has been on the signing of Brazilian players if they are successful in acquiring Washington, he will become their second summer signing from the country after Angelo Gabriel. With Neymar also linked, surely we won’t make it three soon.
The 18-year-old and his family prefer a move to Chelsea, despite the fact that the Blues are planning to send him on a season-long loan to Strasbourg. This should help him garner regular time and continue to develop while for all effects and purposes securing his future at Stamford Bridge in the long term.
However, Monaco are also in the race to sign the striker, and their Brazilian sporting director, Thiago Scuro, is adamant about signing the youngster. But the Blues are leading the race to land the Santos forward as the Brazilian club considers accepting their new bid.
Meanwhile, Giuliano Bertolucci has played a key role in keeping the move on track, and the Italian agent has also represented Gabriel, who took the former Santos player to Chelsea. But the Washington family is pushing for a move to England despite his tender age and will also be open to Santos accepting French club’s bid. Chelsea defender Thiago Silva and Angelo have been in contact with the forward to sell him to West London.
It appears that we are merely signing too many young players and are not concentrating on developing the first team. Washington won’t be joining the first team anytime soon since he needs a few seasons to adjust to life in Europe and Chelsea plans to send him a loan once he is acquired. It is clear that he will be signed for a future project, but it would be wiser for the Blues to hunt for a more established striker to sign for the coming campaign.
