Romano confirms Chelsea have signed Brazilian starlet in €15m package deal

Chelsea hope to confirm the signings of Romeo Lavia and Deivid Washington.

Fabrizio Romano discloses that Chelsea have completed signing of Deivid Washington from Santos

According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea have reached an agreement with Santos to complete the signing of Deivid Washington for €15 million plus €5 million in add-ons.

The 18-year-old signed with a plan to send him on loan for a season, similar to Angelo Gabriel, who completed his season-long move to Strasbourg. Chelsea’s owners recently purchased the French outfit, which makes them our sister club.

The acquisition of Washington means Chelsea have 17 South American youngsters under the Todd Boehlyr regime, which has shown initiative towards signing young players from a highly-rated part of the footballing world. We seem determined to have our very own Vinicius Junior, Casemiro and Neymar Jr.

Monaco were also interested in signing Washington, but the Blues were quick to make a swoop. Monaco are a team known for their notably strong scouting and honing some of the finest young talents in European football.

Washington seems like another South American gem we’ve discovered who can become a future star at the club. Huge props go to our scouting staff for being able to locate such gifted youngsters all throughout the world.

It’s up to the Blues to decide whether to keep him as a backup striker or loan him out moving forward. For now, Nicolas Jackson seems to be our only first-team option at No. 9 given Romelu Lukaku’s uncertain future and Christopher Nkunku and Armando Broja”s long-term injuries.

Making future projects is reasonable, but Todd Boehly would be wise to also invest in our first team given that we still need experience and that our attacking line and midfield appear to be somewhat flimsy.

It is a risky strategy to go with a team full of youngsters when our competitors have established superstars all over the pitch. It is reminiscent of the buying and loaning of players in bulk that we did in the early 2010s under Roman Abramovich.

That hardly worked. Hopefully, this time, we are carefully signing our targets after smart research work rather than going after whichever young player is available in the market. If not, it would be a massive shame because all of this money could have instead been used on experienced, quality, readymade first-team stars instead.
