Fabrizio Romano confirms Axel Disasi will undergo his medical and sign his Chelsea contract today
According to Fabrizio Romano, Axel Disasi is in London and will undergo his medical and sign a five-year contract as a Chelsea player after the Blues completes his €45 million signing from Monaco.
His signing has come in the aftermath of a serious ACL injury to Wesely Fofana, who could miss the entire upcoming season. This setback has seen the Blues look for a solution with Disasi emerging as his replacement.
The 24-year-old is set to provide extra competition at the back as the Blues now boast the likes of Thiago Silva, Benoit Badiashile, and Levi Colwill, while Trevoh Chalobah’s future at Stamford Bridge remains questionable.
His quiet and quick move to Chelsea has been made with the help of Blues co-sporting director Laurence Stewart, who knows the defender from Monaco as Stewart was hired from the Ligue 1 club.
Disasi has been claimed as one of the talented centre-backs who was also part of the France team that reached the 2022 World Cup final but lost to Argentina. The former Stade de Reims player, who plays as a right centre-back and could share playing time with Thiago Silva, will be highly important to the team the following season.
Although it will be his first season in the Premier League, he might be deployed in place of Silva, which would ease his pressure and aid in his adjustment to the league. Let’s hope he finishes his medical successfully and joins the team as soon as possible now that he is in England. It was a really wise move on Chelsea’s part to use him as Silva’s long-term backup as well as a temporary replacement for Fofana.

The France international can hold the ball, is a proactive passer, and is an aggressive defender. Chelsea have a great defender who poses a threat in aerial duels, and he made more passes into the final third of the pitch last season than any other defender in Ligue 1.
