Chelsea have been handed a massive boost in their pursuit of Moises Caicedo as Brighton & Hove Albion manager Roberto De Zerbi has claimed that they will find Caicedo’s replacement if he decides to leave.
The Blues are pushing for a move for Caicedo to Stamford Bridge, but Brighton’s reluctance has been seen as the main obstacle, who are demanding an excessive asking price for the midfielder.
The West Londoners already had their three offers turned down by the Seagulls, who are holding out for £100 million for the talented Ecuadorian defensive midfielder.
The 21-year-old has verbally agreed personal terms to join the Blues; Caicedo also didn’t participate in Brighton’s pre-season game against them and now De Zerbi feels he could see the midfielder leaving the club before the deadline day.
Speaking during the press conference after the game, he said, (h/t Football.London) as quoted by the Sun:
“I don’t know if he’ll be back in training tomorrow. If Moises leaves, we will find another important player. And if Moises stays, I will be happy for us, for the team, and for the club. But it’s not my problem now. If Moises leaves, we will bring another player in. We are Brighton, and under our policy, there is the possibility of losing some players at the end of the season.”
Caicedo’s future seems to lie at Chelsea; it’s just Brighton making it difficult to make the transfer happen. De Zerbi washing his hands off the saga makes it even easier for us because it means the Italian tactician may not be a huge hurdle.
The West Londoners are prepared to make another offer for the 21-year-old, and let’s hope that will be enough to persuade the club to sell him this time because his inclusion will substantially streamline and balance our midfield. He seems to be doing his bit to force the transfer… it is now up to Todd Boehly and co. to put the money on the table.
