Crystal Palace are set to sign Lewis Hall from Chelsea on a season-long loan
According to the Daily Mail, Crystal Palace are close to completing the signing of Chelsea fullback Lewis Hall on a season-long loan. The deal is expected to be completed in the next 48 hours.
Hall is set to compete with Tyrick Mitchell on the left-back line, with the deal nearing agreement with the West Londoners. Hall was called upon from the academy after Ben Chilwell and Marc Cucurella sustained injuries, and the 18-year-old did not disappoint.
A season-long loan spell where he gets a reasonable amount of game time will be a wise move for Hall, who possesses excellent qualities as a left-back. The chances of him garnering regular time on the field is unlikely at Stamford Bridge, necessitating other options being brought to the table.
Last campaign, he showed maturity when given the responsibilities and really stood up in his performance. It saw him feature in nine Premier League games and also be named as Chelsea’s academy player of the season.
With Marc Cucurella, Ben Chilwell, and now Ian Maatsen all available, Chelsea have little need to retain Hall as a fourth choice left-back. The chances of him accelerating his development elsewhere on a temporary basis is a win-win for all.
Mauricio Pochettino was convinced by Maatsen’s performance during pre-season and made the decision to include him in his plans for the next season. This more or less closed the door for other players to break into contention in the same role.
It will be a good move for Hall, as he will get a good amount of game time instead of being a backup at Chelsea next season. Palace are a decent side and have shown a semblance of resurgence under Roy Hodgson. Working with the veteran manager will certainly aid Hall’s progress and development.

The young starlet has great potential, and his past campaign indicated that he is capable of making things materialise with his accurate crosses, ability to link up play, and ability to make overlapping runs to create room. Rest assured, Mauricio Pochettino will be keeping a keen eye on Hall’s development at Selhurst Park.
