Chelsea submit an opening bid to sign Santos striker Deivid Washington

According to Brazilian outlet GE Globo, Chelsea have made an opening bid of €15m euros plus add-ons to sign young Santos striker Deivid Washington in this transfer window.

It is revealed that Santos president Andres Rueda would want something in the region of €30m for the 18-year-old. But, a deal could be struck in what Chelsea are offering. Let’s note that the add-ons may take the offer close to €20m.

Washington has sparked interest from a number of top European clubs in the recent past. Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid, AS Monaco and Borussia Dortmund are among the few clubs keeping a close eye on him. Monaco were even touted to make an offer but no progress was made.

The 18-year-old was a youth player at Santos before making his senior debut for the club at the start of their current Brazil Serie A campaign (leagues in Brazil start in April and end in December).

The striker has made 16 appearances in all competitions so far, scoring a couple of goals. He started in nine of those 16 appearances (Transfermarkt).

Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that provided all things go well and Chelsea sign Washington, a loan move to sister club RC Strasbourg awaits for the 18-year-old.

So, there might be an idea of sending the Brazilian to France with the hope that he plays regular football there and shows what he is capable of in the European circuit.

If he performs well, Chelsea could have him back by the start of the next pre-season. Let’s remember that the striker is still only 18 and has the time to further develop his game.
