“Fans were incredible”- Chelsea outcast pleased with fans’ reaction after completing Serie A loan switch

Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku has officially completed his season-long loan move to AS Roma

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku has officially joined AS Roma on a season-long loan deal with no buy-out option included.

The Belgian striker has been loaned for a fee worth between £7 million and £8 million based on performance-related conditions. Chelsea have also taken his wages off the books, as Rome will cover his full wages after the 30-year-old decided to take a pay cut.

It is also understood that there is a release provision in his contract estimated to be worth around £38 million. The former Everton striker was given a warm welcome by Roma fans when he arrived in Rome, and he was flown by the club’s president.

The centre-forward will spend another loan spell after the Blues once again failed to find a permanent club for him. It was hoped he would return to Inter on a long-term deal, but his flirtation with Juventus resulted in Inter abandoning the race.

After officially being announced as a Roma player the striker thanked fans and further said:

“Roma fans were incredible to me — I can’t wait to get started. The owners here have huge ambitions.”

A move to Roma will be a great way for him to begin a new chapter in his life. He has previously played for Jose Mourinho, who helped him rediscover his explosive form while they were both at Manchester United. Hopefully, the 30-year-old returns to Chelsea, high on confidence and self-belief.

He still has a lot to contribute on the European stage, as evidenced by his reluctance to travel to Saudi Arabia, and Lukaku will hopefully regain his explosive form under Mourinho. Roma did well last season and finished sixth. Now Tammy Abraham’s The Belgian star will be in charge of the attacking line and will have an integral part in this.

We hope that his acquisition will help them finish in the top four and that he impresses them enough to persuade Roma to sign him on a permanent basis, allowing Chelsea to finally part ways with forever.
