Sporting CP forward Marcus Edwards is attracting the interest of Chelsea for a potential move
As per Football.London, Chelsea have added Sporting forward Marcus Edwards to the list of players they might sign before the deadline of this transfer window.
The Daily Mail has revealed that the Blues are in the market to sign an attacker in the coming days. They have kept the likes of Ferran Torres, Raphinha and Emile Smith Rowe on their radar as well.
Coming back to Edwards, he started his career in the Tottenham youth team before moving to Norwich City. The former England youth international moved to Portugal four years ago and has been with Sporting since the middle of the 2021/22 season.
The 24-year-old has scored 15 goals and assisted 17 in 65 appearances in all competitions for the Portuguese giants. He is a left-footed right winger who can play as a false nine or an attacking midfielder.
Looking at his versatility along with the pace he possesses to terrorise any defender, we can see the logic behind Chelsea’s interest in the player. He is good at dribbling past people and producing the final product most of the time as well.
Chelsea signed Christopher Nkunku to cover multiple positions across the forward line and be a menace to opposition defences. But, the Frenchman has been out since the latter part of the pre-season and will miss the action till December.
Hence, getting someone like Edwards to bolster a few positions in the front line can be a shrewd business. With it being so late in the window, one can only wonder how much Sporting could demand for the 24-year-old.
