“Not fazed”- Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink urges Mauricio Pochettino to show patience with promising Chelsea star

Chelsea legend Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink tells Mauricio Pochettino it is a matter of time before Nicolas Jackson comes good with goals

Former Chelsea striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has suggested Mauricio Pochettino to stick by Nicolas Jackson as the youngster is not far away from banging goals in.

Jackson has looked promising in the first two games of this season without opening his account yet. The Senegal international’s running power combined with exceptional hold-up play and awareness of the space gave loads of problems for Liverpool and West Ham defenders.

But, we all know that centre-forwards can only be judged by one metric – goals. Even the best such as Erling Haaland can have lean games but will end up scoring three goals. At the end of the day, we rave about the Norwegian’s finishing rather than his absent overall game.

Hasselbaink believes Jackson is not far away from scoring plenty of goals for Chelsea. Here’s what he said (quoted by Mirror):

“Jackson is doing everything right. The only thing that he needs is a goal to get him off his mark and more confidence in him.

“He’s got all the attributes. He’s quick, he’s strong. Now his challenge is to get consistency and make those performances the norm… but you can see that he’s a confident person, you can see that he’s not fazed by the challenge. The goals will just be a matter of time.”

Not many can judge a striker’s performance better than Hasselbaink. If he is saying positive things about Jackson, let’s adhere to that and hope that goals are coming for him very soon. The next two league games are at home to Luton Town and Nottingham Forest. If the Senegalese star has to open his account and gain confidence, he can do so by scoring a few in these games.

With all due respect, we can expect Chelsea to create plenty of chances against Luton and Forest. Let’s see if Jackson can finish a few off and fall into what Hasselbaink explained above.

The Blues do not have another number nine fit in the squad at the moment. Armando Broja is close to returning but will take some time while Romelu Lukaku is close to an exit. Hence, in a way, Pochettino has no option but to stick with Jackson and back him to score the goals.
