Chelsea have been given the green light to finalise the player plus cash deal for Dusan Vlahovic from Juventus, which will see Romelu Lukaku head the other way this summer. This ‘green light’ has been given by the Belgium international. The two clubs are yet to reach any sort of an agreement.
Fabrizio Romano (h/t the Express) that the Belgian striker has agreed to a three-year deal with the Italian side. Offloading the former Everton striker remains important for Chelsea, as the 30-year-old has no intention to continue at the club.
Inter Milan are not in the race to sign the striker and are pulling out of contention. Juventus are ready to make a swap offer and are demanding £34.4 million for the Serbian centre-forward.
Chelsea remain in negotiations with Juventus, and it is understood that they have made an offer of €20 million for the former Fiorentina hitman. Despite signing Nicolas Jackson, Mauricio Pochettino claimed the Blues are still in the market for a striker, and if they are able to complete the acquisition of Vlahovic, then Jackson might serve as a backup to him.
The addition of Vlahovic may not solve our goal-scoring issues right away, but his experience and positional understanding will help us. Who knows, he can go on to have a significantly strong debut season in England… we can’t say until we see him in action.
However, Vlahovic seems to be injury-prone, as evidenced by the fact that he missed an extensive number of games last season due to various ailments. But that is why we have Jackson, Christopher Nkunku and Armando Broja, right?
This seems like a sensible deal. Lukaku’s financial blunder can be overseen by the current ownership considering he was signed under Roman Abramovich. At least the blood for this blunder won’t be on their hands.
In return, we will get a proper centre-forward who can be moulded into a superstar. Mauricio Pochettino worked his magic with Harry Kane. Vlahovic has the raw minerals to succeed in a similar manner.
Let’s wait and see how Juventus respond. This could be a win-win situation for Chelsea, who will trade an unwanted player for one who can be a direct contributor to this team’s success.
