Transfer News: Chelsea not in negotiations for 22-year-old PL star

Tottenham Hotspur could make a late move for Chelsea target Brennan Johnson.

Chelsea are currently looking at other options rather than signing Brennan Johnson from Nottingham Forest

As per a tweet from Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are not negotiating a deal to sign Nottingham Forest star Brennan Johnson and are instead looking at other options.

It was only a few days ago when Daily Mail revealed that the Blues are interested in signing the Welsh international to bolster the attacking midfield department. There were talks of sending Andrey Santos on loan to Forest to make this deal happen.

But, it seems like the club have backed away from this and are looking at different options. Let’s see what they come up with in the next nine remaining days of this transfer window.

The two attacking midfield options Mauricio Pochettino had are now injured. Christopher Nkunku, who picked up a knee injury during a pre-season game against Dortmund, is out until December.

Carney Chukwuemeka, on the other hand, picked up a knee injury against West Ham on Sunday and will be out for six weeks after undergoing a minor surgery.

If Chelsea do not sign a number 10, there is a possibility of seeing either Conor Gallagher or Enzo Fernandez playing in that position in the coming days. Is that ideal? Perhaps not. But, the former has played there before when he was on loan at Crystal Palace during the 2021/22 season.

Chelsea are not in the race to sign Nottingham Forest star Brennan Johnson anymore.

Fernandez showed against Liverpool that he can operate well between the lines and pick the passes to open up opposition defences. Whether he can do that when playing against low-block defence, remains to be seen.

It has felt like despite having a reasonably good transfer window, Chelsea are short in a couple of positions. Maybe the turnover of the players has been too much to fit in one transfer window. It is not making Pochettino’s job any easier.
